Nolan's Life is Average

Welcome to my Tumblr.

When I have time to burn, this is where the ashes fall.

I'm 21, attending UofIowa for Communication Studies, and I could take it or leave it.

I'm currently single, but there's ain't nothing wrong with that.

I love Mike & Ikes, NPR, chocolate, Volkswagen, ice cream, fashion, cooking, boys - just to name a few. And I got plenty of

Found this at a coffee shop downtown and it renewed my faith in humanity.

Just bringing this back

In case you didn’t know the ‘Smack that, Snape’ reference.

Yes, this is my original post. And yes, it does have this many notes. #boom

There are moments in life when you look at something you did and wonder how it got to be such a deal, either positive or negative.

This was the first post to get over 100 notes, and it gets at least 20 more each day.

Smack that, Snape. :P

This is a Harry Potter class offered at my school. That’s right.

Can I steal your thunder? #sorry
My school offers a class on Harry Potter and a class on the Beatles. :D

Hi.

This hit over 50,000 notes.

I mean, nbd. XD

I wish all my original content did this well - although the stuff on my theme song blog isn’t doing too bad… :D

I’ve always wondered what the “houses” at Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are called. I want to know about more wizarding schools besides Hogwarts

I would guess other magic schools are above segregating their students based on their personality traits at age 11.

This is a really good point. Looking back, is dividing children based on their personalities when they’re only merely 11 years old logical? People will change. To say that someone is “brave” at 11 would be silly, just like saying someone is “smart”. Gryffindors can tur into Ravenclaws, Slytherins can turn into Hufflepuffs, and etc.

Idk - I think it’s the essence of what those qualities are in a person. And, I think it’s good to note that Gryffindor isn’t just bravery - it’s basically those who stand for what they believe; those with strong convictions to do what is right. (As opposed to Slytherins who have strong convictions to do what will most benefit themselves - which isn’t a bad thing all the time)

Yeah, as kids get older, they may blend together more in maturity, but their core value is still the same, I think. And the concept of ‘houses’ I feel just mimics the idea of cliques in schools - just in a much larger and more formal way.

Interesting thought though - how would Hogwarts have been different without houses. Would Voldemort ever have been as powerful? Snape and Lily have been together?

Just before my eleventh birthday, my parents bought me the Y2K Harry Potter boxed set. I read it immediately. Then I read it again. Then again. And again. I read it so many times, I became convinced I was special - magical - and that my Hogwarts admissions letter was in transit by owl, to arrive any day. I began to believe that magic was present everywhere, I had just never seen it before. I lived on a horse farm in central Illinois and I had a little pony, all black except for a single white hair in his tail. I plucked the hair, knowing that I would need it for the core of my wand. I sealed it in a labeled envelope and put it in my bedside dresser. That was ten yars ago today.

The above story was posted by a really good friend from my childhood (who I am still long-distance friends with now). It’s things like this that make me appreciate the people who I’ve met in my life and reminds of the real magic that can come from the imagination and a little dreaming.
